One of the most ambitious projects which García Requejo has carried out is the Paradisus Los Cayos hotel by Meliá. Under this label, we can find the most exclusive brand’s hotels, which offer a revolutionary all-inclusive experience based on an exclusivity and luxury orientation.

With this new initiative, Meliá addresses the most demanding public expectations. It includes services such as adults only spaces, steward services, family programs, restaurants with Michelin star chefs, and a special attention to details.

Meliá has hotels under this label in exclusive and exotic locations such as Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Costa Rica.

The Paradisus Los Cayos hotel is located in Santa María Los Cayos beach, on the north coast of Cuba. This location belongs to the group known as Jardines del Rey: an exotic place that counts with 21.4 kilometres of undulating beaches and incomparable transparent turquoise blue water, that make them perfect places for diving or water sports.

Thanks to its incredible installations, services, activities and magical environment, this exclusive hotel can offer a unique experience to its guests.

This is one of the best illuminated hotels made by García Requejo. The firm has been able to differentiate itself of the dim light trend. As usual, the brand has studied each room to set the necessary light and adjusting the Kelvin degrees to the environment necessities.

And how can the illumination match this kind of hotel and also provide a special meaning to the space?

We talk to Rebeca García, García Requejo’s CEO, to know how was the hotel illumination process.

How needs to be a good hotel lighting?

In many instances, the illumination does not receive the importance it should; however, it is the final touch to provide the warmth the space needs.

It could be subtle or, on the contrary, spectacular, but it will always have an effect on our emotions and on the way we perceive the space.

A good hotel illumination is that one that succeeds in transferring all the designer or architect wants to express in the project. In some occasions, the correct lamps are those which do not get much attention and perfectly blend to the space. However, there are cases in which the environment demands a main element: a charming lamp, exclusively designed for its space. It can be said that the secret of a good luminaire resides in maintaining a perfect environment balance.

What added value does García Requejo bring to its clients?

Wide experience helps a lot, and we have been dedicated to lighting and furniture sector for almost six decades. During these years, we have been working on different projects, but our ability to adapt ourselves has enabled us to carry out every project we have faced.

In addition, quality is an indispensable point for any project. For us this is not something to be sacrificed, as our product final aspect and its durability will depend on it.

For example, Caribbean salinity and moisture are extreme, so choosing some types of materials is not recommended due to corrosion. These factors are very important to consider, and without familiarity with this kind of climatology, it is common not to be aware of them.

How would you define the brand style?

During these years we have already accumulated a lot of expertise to be able to perfectly adapt ourselves to any style, from classic to contemporary, and always using the latest technology. This experience makes us able to perfectly adapt to the customer style.

It should also be taken into consideration that, as we are dedicated to contract lighting and furniture, we are opened to the materials and style selection by the customer. The truth is that we can adapt ourselves to almost any client request.

What were the biggest challenges you faced when lighting the Paradisus Los Cayos hotel?

The truth is that projects are always a challenge, as we have the work to make a conceptual idea a reality. In some occasions, this idea does not have into account aspects like climatology, not to mention the space where the lamp will be placed. It is not the same an outdoors than an indoors lamp, the country extreme temperatures or the thermal gap.

At this point, is where our company brings great added value. Unlike the standard products, that fail to take into account these aspects, the customization of them avoids future problems, which is translated in an increased customer satisfaction.

How do you like to tackle projects?

On some occasions, projects arrive to us closed, so we have to face them in a certain way.

But what we are really passionate on, is about giving a consultancy service through which designers and architects trust in our expertise to design the project the best way possible. After all, that is the essence of our work: to offer a customized product from the start until the end, which takes into account aesthetic, technical and functional aspects.

Unlike other companies, at García Requejo we are not close to a catalogue. We customize all our products; it is barely common to repeat a piece in our projects.

In what projects will we be able to see the García Requejo label in the future?

We are currently working on several projects in different countries and continents. But, for the moment, we cannot speak about them because of confidentiality agreements. We hope to announce them very soon.
