One of the most important elements that we must take into account when facing a design project is the type of climate in which it is located. Its performance and durability will depend on the materials of the furniture and lighting solutions that we propose. It is useless to design an impressive lighting project if the lamps are damaged and the client is dissatisfied just a few months later.
For instance, the weather conditions of European countries do not correspond to that found in Caribbean countries in the least. Therefore the selection of decoration pieces should not be based on the same criteria. The choice of materials is crucial in this type of project. In particular, carbon steel resists the European climate sufficiently. However, it leads to innumerable maintenance problems in countries like Cuba. The degree of salinity suffered by the country causes rapid oxidation in this material. If we do not take into account these variables, the consequences will be disastrous: dissatisfied customers, product returns and, most likely, the loss of the potential market in the area.
Case Study
The lamps in the image above were made for the Grand Hotel Manzana Kempinski in Havana. Given the high temperatures and the strong humidity of the city, it was decided to avoid highly corrosive materials and bet on others such as stainless steel and brass. Moreover, the design of these ceiling lamps is perfectly integrated into the colonial character of the building facade, providing a modern European touch. The result is a satisfied customer because of the exquisiteness of the design and the resistance of the materials.
