For a few months now, Havana has a new hotel on its skyline, the Paseo del Prado Hotel.
The 5-star plus hotel, located at the intersection of the famous Paseo del Prado and the Malecón, is one of the most exclusive hotels in the city. The Accor company was in charge of building it under its SO brand: a line of luxury, elegant, fashion-inspired, avant-garde and dynamic hotels.
That is why it’s not surprising that the building simulates a ship, or that the collaboration of Agatha Ruíz de la Prada for the hotel’s logo or the staff’s uniform design has been asked. Quite a statement of intent.
With the premises of elegance and design, the company trusted García Requejo to carry out the lighting of its more than 250 luxury rooms, including 36 suites.
This type of hotel under the SO line, required design, quality and innovative technology. According to the brand, this is the first design hotel in Havana, and it stands out for its glamorous cultural and social activities.
Each room has its own design, and the lighting had to be in accordance with the decoration on them. Therefore, different lamps were developed according to the theme of each room.
Minimalist wall lights, decorative lamps and LED strips were perfectly combined to create an elegant, welcoming atmosphere with that French je ne sais quoi that characterises the brand so much.
The materials selected were very diverse, and after several months of work we achieved to combine design with safety. Materials were chosen to be anti-corrosive and resistant, not only to the weather, but also to the daily use. This is the case of fireproof treatments, which provide durability and safety for guests.
Fortunately, García Requejo is a brand with extensive experience in tropical climates, acquired through the many projects carried out in the Caribbean. This fact greatly contributed to selecting the most suitable materials for adjusting to the humidity and salinity that prevails on the island.
No doubt this will be a hotel that will give much to talk about in the city of Havana. Design, innovation and the perfect place to see and to be seen.
