One of the manufacturing processes that we use to develop lighting projects is the Foundry, within this blog we will explain in a very simple way the processes that the foundry takes and why it is so important.
Casting is the process to produce useful pieces or objects with molten metal, this process has been practiced since 200 BC.
It basically consists of emptying completely molten metal into a container with the shape of the designed piece, after that you have to wait for the metal to cool down and in this way the material hardens until it takes 100% the shape of the mold.
The main activities to achieve a casting are the following:
- Design of the part models and its internal parts
- Mold design
- Preparation of materials for molds
- Manufacture of molds
- Casting molten metal
- Cooling of the molds
- Removal of castings
- Cleaning castings
- Finishing the castings
- Recovery of materials from the molds
Molds
Containers with the desired shape are known as molds, these are made of different materials such as: sand, plaster, clay, metal, etc. The molds can serve one time or several. In the first case, they are known as temporary molds and those that can be used several times are known as permanent molds. The development of molds is one of the most important points in the casting process, the use of temporary molds or permanent molds depends on how many pieces will be manufactured from each mold.
Permanent molds
Because it is one of the molds that we use the most, we explain below the use and characteristics of permanent molds.
The casting in permanent molds made of metal is used for the mass production of pieces, of high quality and with metals with a low melting temperature. Their advantages are that they have great precision when large quantities are produced. There are several types of metal molds used for the manufacture of parts, usually of non-ferrous metals.
At García Requejo we have developed high quality castings for large projects that have been incorporated into hotels, businesses and government rooms. We are capable of producing from very simple pieces to very complex pieces of large dimensions. If you have a project that includes castings, you can contact us at the following email: info@garciarequejo.com
